Americans experience IBSF spooker Halloween horror show

2019 IBSF World Snooker Championships. Starlight Resort Hotel - Antalya, Turkey. October 29 - November 9

Halloween proved to be bloodcurdling for the Americans competing at the 2019 International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Championships at the Starlight Resort Hotel in Antalya, Turkey, as all three players in the Men's event suffered defeats.

After winning the first frame of his second Group H match against Ben Fortey on the final black ball, Ahmed Aly Elsayed, lost the next two frames on the final colored balls, with the 23-year-old Welshman then going on to secure the following two frames comfortably to defeat the reigning United States National Snooker Champion, 4-1.

It is now essential for Aly to win his next two Group ties if he is to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stage, but he still will feel confident that he is able to achieve this goal.

After his wonderful opening Group L victory yesterday, Ajeya Prabhakar was brought back down to Earth after a 4-0 defeat by Babar Masih, with the 33-year-old from Pakistan in tremendous form as he fired in a break of 103 in the first frame.

One further Group win from his remaining two matches may be enough to put the two-time former United States National Snooker Champion from California in the knockout stage of the event, but he will of course be going all out to win both for certain qualification.

In Group M, Laszlo Kovacs suffered his second successive defeat as he went down 4-1 to Romania's 21-year-old Mihai Vladu. It is vital for the New Yorker to now win both of his remaining Group matches to have any hope of advancing further in the event.

Both Nitin Mehta and Amitabh Seth had a rest day in the Masters' event, but will be back in Group action tomorrow Friday to continue their quests.
