Renat Denkha has won his group in the Men's Event of the 2022 International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Snooker Championships in Doha, Qatar, which advances the United States player into a Round of 32 berth in the knockout stage.
The 35-year-old from Chicago was competing in Group H, and proceeded to win all three of his matches as he first defeated Finland's Patrik Tiihonen 4-0, before then scoring an impressive 4-1 victory over the host nation's Ahmed Saif, and capturing the group's top spot after a closely fought 4-3 success against Sri Lanka's Mohomed Rikaz.
In the Round of 32, the twice runner-up in the Pan American Snooker Championship will match-up against Michał Kotiuk, a 22-year-old from Poland, over the best-of-seven frames for a place in the round of 16.
Both the round of 32 and the round of 16 will be completed tomorrow, March 9.
The reigning and six-time United States National Snooker Champion Ahmed Aly Elsayed however failed to qualify from Group E after finishing in third place.
Aly's first narrow group tie 4-3 loss to Aung Phyo from Myanmar ultimately would cost him a qualifying place, has he then lost 0-4 to Iran's Amir Sarkhosh from Iran, before an easy 4-0 success over the host nation's Mansour Alobaidli.
