It was a tough professional debut for Ahmed Aly Elsayed, as the American was eliminated from the 2023 Championship League Snooker, the opening ranking event of the 2023-24 World Snooker Tour season, after Stage 1 in Leicester, England.

Aly played in Group 23 with the winner of the Group advancing onto Stage 2, and faced China's Fan Zhengyi in his very first professional World Snooker Tour match, and it proved very much to be a baptism of fire. The New Yorker was defeated 3-0 (Match scoresheet) by the world ranked 34 player.

Aly's second Group tie was against England's Sam Craigie, though the world ranked 53 player had it all his own way as he cruised to a 3-0 (Match scoresheet) win.

Aly's third and final Group match was against Ireland's Fergal O'Brien. The former British Open champion, who is currently ranked 107 in the world, has been a professional for over thirty years and that experience showed particularly after he had taken a 2-0 advantage. O'Brien required a snooker in the third frame on the final green ball, though gained the penalty points and then poured more misery on Aly as he trapped him in a very difficult snooker, of which he went on to take frame and match 3-0 (Match scoresheet).

Craigie won Group 23 and advances onto Stage 2, as he previously defeated O'Brien 3-0, and then tied with Fan 2-2.
