The 2019 Pan American Snooker Championship will come to the United States, as the newly formed Pan American Billiards and Snooker Association (PABSA) will host this prestigious international snooker event at Q Ball Snooker & Pool in Houston, Texas, from January 30 - February 3.
The Championship, of which is being organized in cooperation with the United States Snooker Association (USSA), is open to entry from a player who is a citizen of any of the 41 countries which make up the Pan American Olympic movement, with a special dispensation for players who have been a legal permanent resident of one of those nations for a continuous period of the past five years, and have not had any previous representation for a foreign nation in any international snooker competition.
The Championship will commence just days after the conclusion of the 2019 World Seniors Snooker Championship qualifying event at Q Ball Snooker & Pool, giving those eligible players the opportunity to compete in both competitions.
Alan Morris, the Executive Director of the USSA, commented: "It is a huge step forward for snooker in the United States to host this Championship, and gives a much needed boost for the development of the sport throughout the Americas.
"Much of the credit must go to my friend and colleague, Ajeya Prabhakar, the serving President of the USSA, who has been instrumental in the formation of PABSA and bringing this Championship to the United States.
"I would also like to thank Mr. Sayed Hassan, the proprietor of Q Ball Snooker & Pool in Houston too, for his continued support, and for providing the Star Tournament tables the Championship will be played on."
Prior to the Championship, PABSA will hold their first meeting, and it is anticipated that Jason Ferguson, the chairman of both the World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association (WPBSA) and the World Snooker Federation (WSF), will be present.
