The Board of the United States Snooker Association (USSA) has taken the decision to cancel the 2020 United States National Snooker Championship due to the ongoing coronavirus situation in the United States.
This year's Championship had been originally scheduled to be taking place at this moment in time at the New York Athletic Club (NYAC), concluding tomorrow Labor Day.
It was then considered that the Championship could possibly still go ahead in early November at the NYAC, but today the Board has taken the decision to formally cancel the 2020 event.
"As there hasn't been any reduction in the rate of infection since our last Board Meeting in July, the USSA has had no choice but to unfortunately cancel this year's Championship," said Alan Morris, the Executive Director of the USSA.
"This is the first year since 2003 that there will not be a United States National Snooker Championship, but under the current circumstances the decision was really taken out of our hands.
"We feel sure that we have the full support for this decision from all the regular Championship players around the country, and we hope to welcome them back to compete in this prestigious Championship next year."
The USSA would like to announce that the 2021 Championship is intended to be played at the NYAC, and the USSA thanks the NYAC for its continued partnership, although the dates for the event are now under review.
