Ox Billiards is housed in a 5,500 square feet basement space located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood on the corner of Broadway and Pike, which boasts four Star Tournament snooker tables with heated slates, Strachan No. 10 cloth, and professional championship pockets.
Mike Dominguez, the proprietor of Ox Billiards, told SnookerUSA.com how excited he is to host this prestigious Championship for the first time. "One of our main goals for OX was to host the National Championship," he said. "We learned what was required to host the event and made sure that we kept to that script along the way to developing and opening Ox Billiards."
Snooker is growing in Seattle and Washington State. Empire Billiards led by C.C. Yoo, a former Championship runner-up, was the first snooker club in the Seattle area. In February of 2020, BAIZE Snooker Club joined Empire on the Seattle snooker scene. Sadly, BAIZE opened two and a half weeks before the Covid-19 pandemic was declared, and despite the amazing Grand Opening exhibition between Snooker Canada and Seattle Snooker, BAIZE had to close its doors.
Dominguez made a point that Ox Billiards opened with a renewed focus and determination to specifically bring the National Championship to Seattle. "We are proud to have won the bid and are getting a chance to host. C.C. and Empire Billiards are supporting us as a sponsor and a friend. I am so happy that we get to do this as a combined effort," he said about OX and Empire teaming up.
Dominguez added: "The National Championship at OX is set to be an event like no other and we plan to make this year's Championship very special indeed."
With the awarding of this year's Championship to Ox Billiards, Alan Morris, the Executive Director of the USSA, said: "It really is so wonderfully satisfying to see the Championship played in a new city, as it means the sport is breaking new ground and attracting more interest and attention.
"The USSA has been in discussions for some time with Mike to host this Championship, and we are delighted to recognize the genuine passion he has for the sport. In addition to the fantastic snooker facility that he and his team have established. We cannot wait for what will be a brilliant event that all the players can look forward to over the Labor Day holiday weekend."
Entry for this year's Championship is expected to open in May, and will be conducted entirely by signing up to USSA membership on the USSA's new Cloud Snooker system.
