Home player Vito Puopolo has defeated defending champion Ahmed Aly Elsayed of the United States to win this year's Seniors Event of the Pan American Snooker Championships at The Corner Bank in Toronto, Canada.

The six-times former United States National Snooker Champion advanced into the knockout rounds from his group in second place, and forged a path through the event with a 3-0 round of 16 victory over Canada's Eddie Galati, a 3-0 quarterfinal win over Canada's Patrick McCarthy, and coming back from trailing Jason Williams 2-1 to defeat the Canadian 3-2.

Puopolo, who is the reigning Canadian Snooker Champion, won his group and then went onto gain a 3-0 round of 16 success over Brazil's Jesus Batista Oliveira, followed by a 3-0 win over the United States' Ajeya Prabhakar, and he booked his place in the final after defeating fellow Canadian Frank Ammirante 3-1 in the semifinals.

Although Puopolo secured a 3-0 victory over Aly, the match was a closer affair than the scoreline suggested as frames one and three went down to the final colors though he did comprehensively seal the second frame assisted with a break of 46.

Puopolo has now booked a spot to compete in the 2023 World Seniors Snooker Championship at the Crucible, the spiritual home of the sport of snooker, in Sheffield, England.
