Aly commences second season on World Snooker Tour

The United States' Ahmed Aly Elsayed has commenced his second season as a World Snooker Tour professional, with action in the 2024 Championship League Snooker Ranking Event in Leicester, England.

Aly was drawn in Group 18 in Stage 1 of this opening event of the 2024-25 World Snooker Tour, where he faced Anthony Hamilton who was starting his 34th successive season as a professional. A ranking event winner, the Englishman who turns 53 later this month, showed his huge experience as he cruised to a 3-0 victory assisted with a break of 71 in the final frame (Match scoresheet).

Aly's second Group 18 tie was against England's former World Champion Stuart Bingham, who reached the semifinals of this year's World Championship back in May. Breaks of 70 and 71 raced the current world ranked 25th player quickly into a 2-0 advantage, and then in the third frame he was on for a 147 maximum break before snookering himself on the 13th black, and ended the run on 110 for a 3-0 win (Match scoresheet).

The English amateur player Hamim Hussain was the New Yorker's final Group 18 opponent, and demonstrated that he is a very accomplished player as he wrapped up a 3-0 win with a break of 100 in the third frame (Match scoresheet).

Bingham won Group 18 to advance to Stage 2 of this event after also tying 2-2 with Hussain and defeating Hamilton 3-1.
Aly's next match on the World Snooker Tour will be back in Leicester, when he plays in the qualifying rounds for the 2024 Xi'an Grand Prix from July 25 - 27.
