Canada's Sahil Nayyar has become the 2024 Pan American Snooker Champion after winning the Open event at La Bande O'Coin in Saint-Lambert, Canada, to earn a coveted two-year professional World Snooker Tour player status which will start from the 2025-26 season.
The 2024 Pan American Snooker Championships consisted of Open and Senior events and featured players from the host nation of Canada, and also from Brazil and the United States.
Nayyar may have been a surprise finalist after losing two of his Group D matches to narrowly qualify in third place for the knockout stage, but he grew into the Open event has he progressed through the rounds with a 3-1 win over the United States' Tommy Kollins in the round of 24, then defeated fellow Canadian Wei Gao 4-2 in the round of 16, in the quarterfinals produced a fantastic 4-0 victory over the United States' Andy McCloskey, and booked his place in the final with another tremendous 4-0 semifinal success over compatriot Floyd Ziegler.
In the final Nayyar faced Fabio Anderson Luersen of Brazil, who in the round of 16 had defeated the United States' Ajeya Prabhakar 4-2, who he raced into a 3-0 advantage over in under an hour, assisted by a break of 81 in frame two.
Despite a run of 41 by Luersen in the following frame, Nayyar pinched a much more closely contested frame with a break of 55 to extend his lead to 4-0.
Luersen got a frame on the board after securing the fifth frame with a break of 48, however a run of 47 in the next frame helped seal the match for the home favorite and a very efficient 5-1 victory.

The United States' Renat Denkha, who recently won the Embassy Open in San Gabriel, California, went into the Open event as one of the favorites, though he lost in the quarterfinals 4-1 to Ziegler.
Despite losing in the final of Open event, Luersen tasted success in these Championships as he was victorious in the Senior event by defeating Canada's Albert Camara 4-0 in the final.
