Two players will make their debut appearance in a United States National Snooker Championship semifinal this year, but Daren Taylor is still there fighting to retain his title at the Embassy Billiards Club in San Gabriel, California.
Shakib Nihan Karim has made remarkable progress as a snooker player having never previously qualified from his group in the past two Championships that he has played in, and this year progressing into the last-four after defeating his fellow New York player Keith Zhen 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
Karim however now has the tough task of facing Taylor in the semifinals, after the player from Arizona overcame Arafat Amat, who has had a brilliant Championship debut with his quickfire style, 3-0 in the quarterfinals.
Tom Limor is another player having a remarkable run as a first time player in this Championship, having now booked his semifinal berth after decisively defeating the United States Snooker Association's National Coach Andy McCloskey 3-0.
The player from Nevada has set up a fascinating semifinal against Renat Denkha, who previously competed in the semifinals back in 2017. Despite being an unseeded player this year, the winner of this year's Embassy Open has always been one of the favorites for this Championship, and moved into the semifinals after a 3-0 victory of fellow Illinois player and number six seed, Arif Mahmood.
The semifinals, which will be played over the best-of-seven frames, will commence at 9am Pacific (12pm Eastern) Monday, with the final, played over the best-of-nine frames, scheduled to start at 2pm Pacific (5pm Eastern).
